FAIB Trainer/Assessor Verification Course

Many new Trainers/Assessors contacting FAIB have had only 1 verification (monitoring) and in some cases none at all in relation to First Aid.

Some new First Aid Trainers/Assessors may have the opportunity to shadow another First Aid Trainer/Assessor as they work their way up to being competent enough to Train/Assess on their own First Aid courses. However, in the majority of cases this will not be possible.

FAIB intends to address this gap to ensure new First Aid Trainers/Assessors are properly trained, qualified and confident before they start teaching/assessing.

FAIB has concerns particularly relating to the Level 3 Education and Training course (which is a generic Teaching course) not providing new First Aid Trainers/Assessors with the necessary verification and monitoring to become a competent First Aid Trainer/Assessor.

We are receiving enquiries from Trainers/Assessors who are quite simply not ready to Train/Assess First Aid.

The old HSE Guidance required new First Aid Trainers/Assessors to complete 4 verifications on First Aid subjects before they were ready to teach on their own and FAIB is committed to upholding these guidelines.

Many of the Trainers/Assessors that contact FAIB may have completed 1 verification (monitoring) on a First Aid subject however in some cases they have not completed any at all in relation to First Aid.

FAIB recognises this as a significant issue and is committed to addressing it. While we strongly support the introduction of new Trainers/Assessors into the industry, it is essential that they possess the proper background in both Training and First Aid
